Eyebrow Dye Recipe with Natural Ingredients + How To – Dr. Axe – Telegraph
Do you want to know how to dye your eyebrows safely and naturally at home? I have an easy eyebrow dye recipe for you.
Why use a DIY eyebrow tint? Like most beauty products out there, finding an eyebrow dye, or an eyebrow dye kit, that is truly all natural (and chemical-free) can be a challenge. Around here, we are all about DIY, and that goes for homemade eyebrow dye, too.
How to Dye Your Eyebrows
Now, let’s talk about how to dye your eyebrows. While many opt for a salon professional, you can easily do this yourself. Here’s how.
Start at the inner part of your brow (closest to the bridge of your nose), which is where the brows are more dense. Using a spoolie brush or a small wooden stick, dab on the dye to the end of your brow focusing on the center first, then you can go back and get the little stray hairs along the edges. I recommend doing one brow at a time. You can use a timer set at about 15–20 minutes for the dye to take effect. Since we are using all-natural products, it takes longer than the chemical-laden products.
Wipe off the dye with a wet cotton ball or paper towel. You may need to add a bit of pressure or use a little back and forth motion for the best removal. Keep in mind that if you you do not remove it, it may continue to dye or darken. Washing your face after removing the dye also helps. In addition, you can use a little witch hazel to help remove excess dye.
Repeating the process about every three to four weeks can keep your eyebrows looking shapely. Now that you know how to dye your eyebrows, let’s delve into making your very own homemade eyebrow dye.
DIY Eyebrow Dye
First, let’s address how to choose the right color for your eyebrows. Your first instinct may be to find a dark color. But you will improve your look more by choosing a shade that is just about two shades darker than your hair color — which may not be your natural hair color, but rather the color of your hair today.
Once you’ve decided on the shade you’re aiming for, add the coffee grounds and cocoa powder to a small bowl. Coffee grounds are great for more than just a facial scrub — they can also help tint the eyebrows! Coffee grounds are a natural way to stain the brows. Plus it’s a great way to use today’s leftover coffee grounds Adding the cocoa powder is important for a lighter shade. So use less cocoa powder if you want a darker shade. Mix these two ingredients.
Now add the coconut oil, honey and aloe vera gel. It’s no secret that coconut oil offers antibacterial qualities, but it also helps bind these ingredients together. The honey is a great skin healer. Even though your eyebrows may not need healing, the honey can promote healthy skin in the brow area while also helping to bind the ingredients together. It also helps keep the mixture on the brows during the dyeing process due to its natural stickiness.
Aloe vera gel provides a healthy boost to the skin underneath the brows as well by soothing the skin and helping eliminate any potential, or existing, irritation.
Blend everything together and let it sit for about 5 minutes or so before applying. Follow the suggestions above for dyeing your brows.
Now that you have your very own eyebrow dye, you can keep those brows looking perfect! Keep in mind that you want to follow your brow shape as you apply it. Start with the thicker inner brow area and end with the outer area. You can layer the tint until you’ve achieved your desired color, but it will take about 20 minutes for the tint to dye. If you want the color to be darker, you can allow it to sit a bit longer or make your next batch with less cocoa as noted previously. Finish with an eyebrow gel to keep stray hairs in place.
